What size strap does a Baume & Mercier Capeland take?

The Capeland splits by case size: the 42mm chronographs (10061 and siblings) take 20mm, the 44mm chronographs (10064 to 10067) take 21mm, and the 44mm Worldtimer (10106, 10107) takes 20mm. The Capeland S takes 20mm too but with curved strap ends, so a straight-cut 20mm strap leaves a gap at the case. Clifton: the 20mm default and the 21mm Club exception

The round Clifton is the collection that makes Baume & Mercier look like a 20mm brand, and for the dress models it is true from the 39mm gold Baumatic to the 43mm retrograde power reserve: a specialist maker page pins the 10505 at 20mm on a 40mm case ^[12], a retailer spec sheet prints lug width 20mm on the Baumatic chronometer M0A10518 ^[6], a dealer listing prints 20mm on the 39mm 10802 ^[14], the same 20mm appears on the 41mm 65717 ^[39] and the 43mm 10449 ^[7]. The Club is the exception that matters: it is the sporty 42mm Clifton with the dive bezel, and every close surface prints 21mm, dealer listings in words ^[10] ^[11] and retailer spec sheets in the specifications block ^[8] ^[9]. The per-family database prints a blanket 20mm for all 48 Clifton references ^[27], and for the Club that blanket is simply wrong. One more Clifton trap: a width-summary guide claims the Clifton Baumatic uses an 18mm lug ^[17], which contradicts every measured and printed surface on the actual Baumatic references; treat that claim as the error it is.

Capeland: one collection, three widths plus a curve

The Capeland is where copying one number from a compatibility table costs you a return shipment. The 42mm chronographs take 20mm: the dealer specs for the 10061 print band width 20mm ^[18] and inlet size 20mm ^[19], and the reference database agrees across the 42mm family ^[26]. The 44mm chronographs take 21mm: a Chrono24 listing prints Stegbreite 21mm on a 44mm Capeland ^[20], a dealer database prints lug width 21mm on the 10067 ^[21], and another dealer prints inlet size 21mm on the same reference ^[22]. Same collection, same look, one millimeter apart. The 44mm Worldtimer is the one Baume & Mercier model the incumbent compatibility pages chart, at 20mm ^[23] ^[24], and that figure survives cross-checking: a strap listing pinned to the 10106 reference sells 20mm lugs for it ^[25]. The Worldtimer Limited Edition 10135 is a different watch and the database's 22mm for it ^[26] stands alone, so it is not charted. Finally the Capeland S: 20mm like the standard car, but the factory strap is documented as 20 at the lugs tapering to 18 with curved ends ^[35], and strap sellers explicitly split their Capeland 20mm straps from their Capeland S 20mm curved straps ^[16].

Hampton: rectangular, and the number nobody agreed on

Against that, one Chrono24 dealer listing prints 20mm for the 10528 ^[37]; a manufacturer specification beats a dealer listing, and two factory pages plus one retailer sheet beat one dealer. The smaller and legacy Hamptons: the Lady-sized and Classic midsize references hold 18mm across the database ^[26] and the maker size table ^[31], and the oversized Hampton Spirit 65394 runs 23mm at the lugs tapering to 20mm ^[16] ^[17]. Since 2020 the men's Hamptons also change straps on a no-tools bar system ^[33], which makes the swap easy and the hardware match mandatory.

Riviera: the Fast Strap disclosure

The Riviera is the reason this page refuses to print a plain width row for Baume & Mercier's best-known sports watch. The width data exists: a dealer spec sheet prints strap width 20mm on the 42mm 10617 ^[29] and a width-summary guide lists the Riviera at 20mm ^[17]. But width is not the binding constraint. The manufacturer's Strap Finder states that all Rivieras use an interchangeable strap system built on fast strap technology ^[1], the product pages repeat it per reference ^[4] ^[36], and the launch documentation describes the mechanism: the bracelet clips into the center of the lug, with no tools and no force ^[5]. The steel bracelet is integrated, the rubber straps are factory MXE0 references listed per watch, and one measured review notes the rubber must be cut to length ^[30]. A generic 20mm strap on ordinary spring bars is not the factory interface. If you own a Riviera, the sizing answer is the compatible-straps list on your reference's product page, and the width is a footnote to it.

What the single-model incumbents cannot tell you

The best-covered Baume & Mercier sizing resources on the strap market are thin by design. The dedicated compatibility pages chart exactly one model, the Capeland Worldtimer at 20mm, and generalize from it that Capeland models use 20mm straps ^[23] ^[24], which the 44mm chronographs at 21mm contradict ^[20] ^[21]. The general band retailers print one line for the whole brand, commonly 18mm to 20mm with Clifton typically 20mm ^[34], which is true for exactly the round Cliftons and false for the Club, the large Classima, the men's Hampton and the Spirit. The per-reference database is the broadest rail and this chart cites it throughout, but it currently prints one width per family, 20mm for all 48 Cliftons ^[27], and a blanket number cannot flag the Club's 21mm, the Complete Calendar's ambiguity, the Capeland's internal split, or the Riviera's attachment system. A width summary that lists the Hampton at 20mm and the Clifton Baumatic at 18mm ^[17] shows how far a summary can drift from the watches. Two sources per row, conflicts disclosed, proprietary systems named: that is the difference between a number and an answer.

Rows we refused to publish

Three references could not reach two agreeing surfaces and are excluded. The Clifton Complete Calendar 10055, 43mm: a measured hands-on review states the lugs are 21mm wide ^[28] while the per-family database prints 20mm ^[27], and no third surface separated them; since its 43mm stablemate 10449 is documented 20mm ^[7], the same case size genuinely splits, so measure before ordering a Complete Calendar. The legacy Classima Executives 39mm generation: strap listings sell 20mm straps pinned to the 6553 and 8791 ^[38] while the database prints 18mm for the neighboring 8788, 8878 and 8833 references ^[26], an 18-versus-20 split inside one 1990s-2000s generation that only your caseback or a ruler can settle. The Capeland Worldtimer Limited Edition 10135: the database prints 22mm ^[26] and nothing else touches it; the regular Worldtimers are 20mm ^[23] ^[25], so a limited edition one width up is plausible and unverified. None is charted until a second surface agrees.

Your watch is not in the table

Work the reference, not the collection name. Find the M0A number on the guarantee card or the 4 or 5 digit technical reference on the caseback, then run it through the manufacturer's Strap Finder ^[1], which also shows the factory straps for current models. For discontinued references, the per-reference database is the broadest index ^[26] and dealer listings with printed lug widths are the strongest confirmation ^[20]. Without any paper: measure between the lugs in millimeters as the measuring guide shows, and treat any Baume & Mercier that is not a round Clifton or a 40mm Classima as a measure-first watch, because the odd widths, the rectangular cases and the Fast Strap system all live one assumption away.
