Fears band size chart by model

Fears, the Bristol brand relaunched from a 1846 archive, publishes a dedicated specification page for nearly every reference it has made, and each one prints the same trio: case dimensions, lug-to-lug and lug width. We pulled the current catalog, the previous-models archive, the Archival 1930 reissues and the precious-metal Brunswicks fresh from the brand's own site via its sitemap and live product feed [38][39], 37 specification pages in total [43]. The result is unusually clean: 20mm lug width on every Brunswick, Redcliff, Arnos and Archival, one 22mm outlier (the Garrick), and five distinct lug-to-lug measurements that do the real sizing work. No strap retailer has charted the brand: watchbands.ai lists 189 brands with no Fears page [45].

Quick answers: a Fears takes a 20mm strap unless it is the Garrick (22mm). The 38mm Brunswick cushion case is 42mm lug-to-lug, the Brunswick 40 is 46.5mm, the Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour is 47mm, the Redcliff 39.5 is 46.95mm and the Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar is 45.4mm. The Archival 1930 rectangles print a 20mm lug width but no lug-to-lug at all.

Prices are the store's USD list prices from the brand's live product feed at build time [39]; sold-out archive references keep their last list price. The original Midas page is still published but its product entry is gone from the feed, so no price is shown. Depth figures are to the top of the domed sapphire glass unless the cell says otherwise; where a model ships with a choice of casebacks, both depths are printed.

One width, five reaches: the real sizing decision

The single 20mm width is the easiest part of buying a strap for a Fears. What actually decides whether a given reference sits well on a wrist is the lug-to-lug, and Fears spreads it across five values. The 38mm Brunswick cushion prints 42mm, which is compact enough for a 6.25-inch wrist. The Brunswick 40 cases print 46.5mm, the Brunswick 40 '1846 Edition' prints 47mm, the Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour family prints 47mm, the Redcliff 39.5 prints 46.95mm and the Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar prints 45.4mm. That last one is the odd shape of the set: a 39 x 37mm case, the only non-square Brunswick currently specified [13].

The cushion case is the reason the numbers matter more than usual. A cushion case puts its widest point at the case middle and curves in toward 20mm lugs that sit close together, so the printed lug-to-lug, not the case size, is what tells you whether the watch overhangs a small wrist. The brand's own Brunswick page points at the archive origin: inspiration from a gentleman's cushion case watch first made in 1924, wording carried on the product page of the current Brunswick 38 White [1].

Two references break the pattern on purpose. The Arnos is a rectangular cushion, 22.6 x 33.5mm, and its specification page prints the lug-to-lug in parentheses after the case dimensions, 40mm, with 8.40mm thickness [7]. The Garrick, built with Garrick England, is a 42mm round case at 49mm lug-to-lug and the only Fears at 22mm lug width [11]. The Archival 1930 pair, rectangular 40 x 22mm cases built around new-old-stock 1930s movements, print a 20mm lug width and no lug-to-lug at all [33]; we flag that cell as not printed rather than estimating it.

The depth column: two casebacks, two numbers

Most Fears models ship with a choice of closed or sapphire open caseback, and the brand prints a depth for each. The Brunswick 38 family is 11.84mm closed and 11.69mm open; the Redcliff 39.5 Date is 9.98mm closed and 10.37mm open, the open back adding thickness rather than removing it [4]. The Brunswick 40 Filton trio prints a single 11.90mm, the Jump Hours print 12.8mm, the thickest of the modern range, and the Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar prints both a bezel depth of 9.4mm and a sapphire depth of 10.1mm [13]. At the precious end, the 18ct gold Brunswick Au and the platinum Brunswick Pt both print 12.12mm, a hair thicker than the steel 38s [36].

What the brand itself says about straps

Fears is unusually direct about strap compatibility. The Brunswick 40 Filton product page states you can customise it with any strap designed for a 20mm lug width, including any strap from the Fears range, fitted without tools [10]. The same pages note the bracelet comes off without tools on quick-release springbars. The brand's own strap shop is small, and only one item there prints its width in the listing title: the Straight (20mm) MING Polymesh [44], a mesh strap originally made for MING watches that happens to share the Fears lug width.

One caution the spec pages do not mention: every Brunswick and Redcliff is a cushion or curved-lug case, so a straight-cut 20mm strap can leave a small visual gap where the strap meets the curved lug. The brand's own straps are cut to match. Third-party curved-end 20mm straps solve it if you want to stray.

The 43mm trap on the Charcoal Rose

The only third-party site with Fears dimensions in bulk is Lug to Lug Finder, a database with 30 Fears entries, lug-to-lug only, no lug widths [46]. It lists the Brunswick 38 'Charcoal Rose' at 43mm lug-to-lug. The brand's own Charcoal Rose specification page prints 42mm, the same as every other 38mm Brunswick [6]. The database itself warns that measurements vary by source; on this one the first-party page wins. The other adjacent site, WatchPolice, aggregates 193 Fears references with prices and a 20mm/22mm lug-width tally but no case dimensions [47]. Neither is a band-size chart, which is why this page exists.

A small catalog, charted completely

Fears keeps a deliberately small range: 16 references in the current All Watches collection [40], 16 in Previous Models [41], the two Archival 1930 builds and three precious-metal Brunswicks whose product entries have left the feed but whose specification pages stay published [42]. Small catalogs are where retailer charts go to die; there is no volume in charting 16 watches. The 37-row table above is the whole set, every number from a first-party specification page pulled fresh, and the archive rows are labeled as archive rows rather than quietly mixed into the current range.

How we verified this

Every specification page cited in rows 1 through 37 was fetched fresh from fearswatches.com in the en-US locale during this build, 37 of 37 returning http 200; the one wrinkle was the Sherbet Yellow spec page, whose published address is spelled sherbert on the brand's own sitemap, and we cite the address that actually serves. The current and archive catalogs were enumerated from the brand's live product feed and both collections, not from a menu crawl. The strap-width claim was cross-checked against the brand's strap shop. No number in the table is transcribed from a third-party site, and the two cells the brand does not print, the Archival lug-to-lugs, are marked not printed. At build time the incumbent check was re-run: watchbands.ai remains at 189 brands with no Fears entry, and search by two methods found no consolidated Fears band-size chart [46].

The master band size chart indexes every brand on this site and the lug width chart by brand places Fears' 20mm catalog next to the multi-width brands. For neighbouring case studies: the Kurono chart covers a sold-out archive catalog with a 34/37mm split, the Monta chart another one-width 20mm family sorted by lug-to-lug, and the Trilobe chart a tiny-catalog brand where case size drives the split. Strap changes are covered in the spring bar tool guide, and the taper chart explains the 20/16 convention strap sellers use.
