Diatom band size chart: the fractional lug width the round-number rule cannot see

Diatom sells space-flown meteorite watches through an 18-product merchant feed that lives under the store's en-eu locale prefix, with page two coming back an empty products array [1][2], and not one product in that feed prints a lug width. The widths live on the rendered product pages, and there they break the one rule every strap guide repeats: the Terra collection's is fractional. Every Terra page prints Lug width: 23.7mm down to 20mm [7], a figure that appears nowhere on the round-number ladder the strap trade sells.

The chart, all ten watches verbatim

Every spec line below is copied exactly from the rendered page of the watch in that row. The lug-to-lug figure inside each line is quoted as context only; no width in this table was taken from a lug-to-lug number.

Ten watches, two widths, and a collection boundary that could not be guessed from case size alone: the smaller 39.5mm Terra takes the wider 23.7mm strap and the bigger 42mm Dots take 22mm. Six Terra colourways, Azure, Dune, Arctic, Graphite, Lagoon and Verdant, carry byte-identical spec lines [3][4][5][6][7][8]. The four Dot watches agree on the width but not on the whole line: Blue Dot, Grey Dot and Blue Dot Full Meteorite Face print Thickness: 9mm [9][10][11], while the Blue Dot MkII prints Thickness: 11.2mm on an otherwise matching line [12]. A thickness split inside a width class is exactly why this chart renders every sibling instead of sampling one page per family and assuming the rest.

23.7mm: the width the generic advice rounds away

The strap guides are unanimous that widths come in whole millimetres. One widely-read sizing guide puts it as doctrine: lug widths are always round numbers in millimeters (18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24), and closes the case with if you measure 19.8mm, the lug width is 20mm [22]. That rule is sound for nearly every watch charted on this site, and it is wrong for a Terra. A Terra owner who measures 23.7mm between the lugs, applies the round-to-nearest rule, and buys a 24mm strap has bought a strap that does not fit; one who trusts the 20mm in the same spec line has bought the clasp-end taper instead of the lug size. The number is not a stray typo on one page: it prints on all six Terra colourways [3] and again, in the strap's own words, on the accessories side: Lug Width: 23.7mm, tapering to 20mm at clasp to fit all of our Terra Collection watches [18]. Seven first-party surfaces, one figure. The taper explains the second number: the strap is 23.7mm at the spring bars and 20mm at the clasp, so a two-piece 23.7mm strap with a taper is the factory shape, and a straight 24mm strap is not.

The legacy contradiction: 24mm on the strap, 22mm on the watches

The brand's own accessory pages do not agree with each other about the legacy collection, and this chart prints both lines rather than picking one. The space shuttle tyre strap page states: Lug Width: 24mm to fit all our legacy collection watches [20]. Every watch the brand itself files under the Legacy Collection, the Blue Dot, the Blue Dot MkII, the Grey Dot and the Blue Dot Full Meteorite Face, the four products on the legacy collection page [21], prints Lug width: 22mm on its own product page [9][10][11][12]. A 24mm strap and a 22mm lug cannot both be right. The watches themselves are the more direct evidence for what fits a Dot, but the discrepancy is unresolved on the brand's own store, so it is flagged here exactly as found. If you own a Dot, measure between the lugs before ordering the tyre strap.

The FKM rubber strap page sits between the two collections without naming either: Integrated quick-release spring bars 22mm lug width [19]. The figure matches the Dot watches, but the page never says which collection the strap serves, so the numeric agreement is recorded as an observation, not an attribution.

The enamel dials print nothing

Five watches in the feed, the enamel dial line named Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars and Moon, print no lug width anywhere in their served pages: no spec line, no sentence, zero occurrences of the phrase lug width in any casing [13][14][15][16][17]. This chart records that absence instead of inferring a width from case size or from the Terra and Dot lines. Anyone buying a strap for an enamel dial model should measure between the lugs first; the measuring guide covers how.

The lug-to-lug numbers are not strap sizes

Every Diatom spec line prints both figures in one run, Case diameter: 39.5mm Lug to lug: 44mm Thickness: 10.9mm Lug width: 23.7mm down to 20mm [7], and only the figure after Lug width: is a strap size. The 44mm and 48.4mm numbers are lengths over the lugs, wrist-fit figures that decide how the watch wears, not what strap it takes; a buyer who reads 44mm as a strap width is two sizes out in the other direction. The lug-to-lug guide treats those numbers separately, and the watch band size chart places Diatom beside every other brand charted here.

How this chart was checked

The merchant feed was re-pulled fresh at build time under its en-eu locale prefix, 18 products with page two returning an empty products array [1][2], and it still prints no lug width in any product body, which is why every width above is watch-side. All 18 product pages in the feed were then rendered fresh, one per product, watches, straps and enamel dials alike, and every spec line in the table was machine-matched as a contiguous verbatim run against its own page before this page was written [7]. One expansion on the earlier research basis is disclosed rather than hidden: partial research had rendered two of the Dot watches and read the legacy line as two references; the full render shows four Dot products, including the Blue Dot MkII whose spec line differs from its siblings in thickness, 11.2mm against 9mm, while agreeing on the 22mm width [12]. The watchbands.ai brand index, re-pulled fresh at build time with its Seiko, Citizen and Rolex controls firing, does not list Diatom at all [23].
